Bolivia is a South American republic named after Simon Bolivar who freed the state from Spanish rule in 1820.


The provincial town (the official capital) of Sucre seen above and to the right. 

In the "Witches' Quarter" of La Paz, a woman sells the necessary items to cast a spell.  Dried animal parts, candles, incense and figures are part of the requirements. La Paz is the highest capital in the world at 12,000+ feet.

Native American Indians lived in this high region of South America.  The mountains seen above are part of the landscape as you enter Potosi at 13,000 feet.  Our car would barely operate at this altitude because the air was so thin.
